About Icon Logistics Dunedin
As a logistics company, Icon Logistics’ primary service is in handling and transporting containers. Following the completion of a comprehensive expansion strategy in recent years we are now significantly involved in the provision of secure storage and managed warehousing facilities. General cartage, especially of dry and palletised goods, is the third main branch of our service regime.
The History of Icon Logistics
In 2002, two existing container handling companies merged to form a new company; formed with the aim of providing high standards of service to customers requiring road transportation of containers around Otago.
In February 2005, the new company was rebranded under the name of Icon Logistics. From our Dunedin base, Icon Logistics’ initial operations provided mainly import and export container transportation to customers in and around the Dunedin CBD and in rural areas in North and South Otago.
In July 2011 a joint venture was undertaken between Icon Logistics and Southfreight Transport and Storage a subsidiary company of Port Otago, now trading as Icon Logistics Ltd. This joint venture has been very successful and has allowed Icon Logistics to flourish as a business, trading under the one identity, employing over 45 staff.
With a strong dedication to customer satisfaction, Icon Logistics continued to expand as a business. With the addition of secure storage and managed warehousing, along with general cartage. Storage capacity increased over time, as the business developed a solid reputation.
Icon Logistics not only undertake ongoing logistics projects but also do large scale one-off logistical solutions and big ongoing projects. For example, 2017, Icon Logistics began working with Oceania Dairy, based in Glenavy and now employ a small crew in the region to keep up with the ongoing demands of the project, coordinating the transportation, storage and export of a wide range of milk products to local and international markets.
In 2018, Icon Logistics moved its main location from Fryatt Street to Parry Street, with an MPI facility created in consultation with the Ministry of Primary Industries. Our MPI facility is the only high-risk indoor facility in Dunedin. At Parry Street, Icon Logistics also has a large service yard and storage area, to handle large scale logistics projects and in late 2018, purchased a Combilift for quick and easy handling. We are proud of our strong relationship with MPI and believe good communication can be critical to ensuring a smooth-running project.
Icon Logistics now operate throughout the South Island, but primarily in Otago and maintains solid working relationships with the Ministry of Primary Industries, local transport companies, Port Otago and Kiwi Rail. With extensive storage, an indoor MPI facility and Combilift, Icon Logistics have the infrastructure to take on custom projects and meet tight deadlines and customer expectations.
